Can you tell us about your journey as a home staging professional?

Kristen and Amy's journey into home staging began unexpectedly while they were both selling their first homes. Coming from careers in medicine and education, they were feeling burned out and looking for something more fulfilling. Having always wanted to work together, preparing their homes for sale sparked a shared passion for design and staging.

"We both enjoyed the process so much that I suggested we start our own company," Kristen shares. "Amy agreed, and we haven't looked back since."

They threw themselves into home staging and design, working hard to create a distinctive aesthetic that has helped them stand out in a competitive market.

What's your process for transforming a space to make it appealing to potential buyers or clients?

When it comes to their approach, Salt + Pine focuses on creating a lifestyle that appeals to potential buyers. Their process begins with considering the home's unique features and how to enhance them with a combination of textures, neutral colours, and layered details.

"We pride ourselves on our curated aesthetic, creating custom designs for each home we stage," Amy shares. "We use warm, inviting neutral tones, layered textures, and quality furnishings to highlight the best details of a home. Our goal is to make potential buyers feel at home as they move through the space."

Kristen adds, "The layout is key—we think about how buyers will enter and move through the room. The design should guide them and create a sense of flow."

What elements do you think are essential for creating a standout interior today?

"It's all about creating moments," Kristen says. "We layer pillows with different neutral patterns and textures and use accessories like marble bowls, coffee table books, and greenery to add depth and warmth."

They also mix in on-trend pieces, which help create a lifestyle that buyers can see themselves enjoying.

"Furniture that's transitional in style appeals to a wide range of potential buyers, and art that draws the eye and sets the vibe for the space pulls everything together," Amy adds.

What role does art play in transforming a staged home?

"A neutral, soothing piece of art can make buyers feel relaxed in a space," Kristen explains. "On the other hand, a more dramatic piece can give a room a modern edge and appeal to buyers who desire that look."

How do you balance creativity with the need to cater to a wide range of potential buyers?

"We work with a neutral palette that offers versatility," Amy explains. "It allows potential buyers to see how they could add their own style while still creating a sense of accessible luxury that many aspire to."

Kristen adds, "By staying current with design trends and using our inventory creatively, we're able to meet the needs of a wide variety of buyers while keeping our stages interesting."

Can you share a recent project where you were particularly proud of the results and what made it a success?

Salt + Pine recently worked on a high-end custom home for a developer, a project they were incredibly proud of. The house featured beautiful finishes and was listed at a premium price point, meaning the staging had to be flawless to appeal to luxury home buyers.

"We knew the design had to be on point," Kristen shares. "We actually planned the entire staging around our favourite piece of Green Lili art—Soothing Seas. It was hung over a stunning modern fireplace in the main living space, setting the tone for our goal of quiet luxury throughout the home."
